Many school canteens only operate one or two days each week and some schools don't have a canteen at all. Strathfield South Public School is fortunate to have a top class canteen service, open every day of the school week for breakfast, recess and lunch at the following times:
- Breakfast: 8.30am – 8.50am
- Break 1: 11am – 11:20am
- Break 2: - 12.30pm – 1pm
- Break 3: - 2pm - 2.15pm
Please remind your children to use their manners when speaking to the volunteer canteen staff.
We're a P&C operated canteen
Our canteen operated by the SSPS P&C (Parents & Citizens Association). The canteen is governed by our Canteen Policy and the P&C's Canteen Committee which is there to represent the views of parents and teachers. The Committee meets about twice each term to discuss any new ideas, changes, problems and general maintenance issues. If you would like to get involved, please email us at ssps.pnc.canteen@gmail.com
Hui Ching Su is our Canteen Manager. She is employed by the P&C to oversee the management of the canteen and is assisted by Samantha El-Kabbout.
We thrive on volunteers
Volunteer parents and carers are very important to the effective operation of the canteen. There's a roster for volunteering each week and volunteers are always welcome, regularly or irregularly, even for an unexpected hour. Just drop by the counter, ask if you can help now, or find a time that suits you best.
We use the MunchMonitor for online ordering
Online orders help us to run the canteen more efficiently. Staff and volunteers no longer need to spend time counting coins and deciphering orders written on paper bags. This leaves more time to prepare fresh and healthy food.
The MunchMonitor system also offers a range of benefits for students and parents.
With MunchMonitor you can:
- Place lunch orders online 24x7 up to 4 weeks in advance.
- Obtain reports on your child's canteen spending.
- List allergies to alert canteen staff during account sales.
- Request a cashless "snack tag" for your child's over the counter purchases. This means no more lost cash and lets you set daily or weekly spend limits. To do this, ensure you allow "Snack Money" in their student profile and indicate a daily or weekly spend limit.
- Ban nominated foods from being purchased over the counter.
To set up your MunchMonitor account:
- go to www.munchmonitor.com
- enter Username: ssps and
- Password: munch2136
- Click the login button; and
- follow the simple steps to get started.
Please note that the MunchMonitor charges a $2.50 administration fee for each parent account per term.
MunchMonitor - FAQs
Can I still buy things over the counter with cash?
Yes, you can still purchase snacks and drinks with cash over the counter. However lunch orders have to be placed online through the MunchMonitor.
What if I don't have enough time in the morning to start up my computer and place my order online?
You can place your order in person at the canteen before 9am and the order will be booked to your MunchMonitor account. However we ask that parents use this option only as an exception as it is time consuming for canteen staff.
How can I limit how much money my children spend on their snack tag?
In your account settings you can set daily or weekly spending limits for each the swipe tag. You can also ban certain items so your child cannot purchase these with their swipe tag.
Does the MunchMonitor take money out of my credit card account?
No. You recharge your MunchMonitor account similar to how you would recharge a prepaid phone. Payments for lunch orders and purchases with the snack tag are then drawn down from the balance on your MunchMonitor account.
How will I know when my account balance is low?
Once your account balance falls below an amount that you have nominated (in your account settings under "parent profile"), you will receive an automatic email reminder to top up your account.
Everything we do benefits the students and the school
Because we don't need to make big profits, we can offer a healthy, diverse range of meals and snacks to our children, while keeping our prices low. We aim to provide a variety of healthy food and drinks and are a member of the Healthy Kids Association. (link to https://healthy-kids.com.au/). The P&C uses any profits from the canteen to support the school.
