At Strathfield South Public School, all students participate in science education. Students in years 1-6 also benefit from specialised science and technology lessons.
Students develop skills in scientific enquiry through the process of working scientifically, design and production processes in the development of solutions and design and production of digital solutions.
Students learn about a range of areas in science including but not limited to:
- Earth and Space including daily changes in the weather, atmospheric and astronimcal events, natural processes and human activity and their solar system.
- Living World including the characteristics and needs of living things, grouping living things and adaptations of living things.
- Material World including the properties of materials and their use and performance in designs.
Science and technology is mandatory for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
In science and technology, students explore the natural and made worlds. They learn how to apply scientific and technological skills, knowledge and understanding across a broad range of contexts.
Science provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real world problems. The inquiry and skill-based nature of science opens doors to ideas and discoveries.
