Swimming is one of the most popular pastimes in Australia. Currently, drowning is the fourth largest cause of unintentional death and occurs in people of all ages. Children aged 5-14 years have the lowest rate of drowning deaths in Australia and it is believed that learning to swim and water safety skills in this age group are important drowning prevention strategies and may explain why the drowning rate is so low. For this reason, it's important that our students learn water safety and survival skills, so that they can continue to enjoy aquatic activities. To help achieve this goal, the Department of Education (DoE) runs the School Swimming and Water Safety Program. During Weeks 3 and 4 of Term 3, students in Stage 1 will have the opportunity travel to Enfield Pool accompanied by classroom teachers and be part of this vital program promoting water safety skills children will need for life.
