The Department of Education regularly reminds us of their goal that all students ‘are known, valued and cared for’. At Strathfield South Public School, we consistently aim to live up to this goal.
So what of student self- esteem? How can we ensure that students have confidence in their own worth and abilities?
At Strathfield South Public School, we believe in building school pride, in building self-respect and dignity. We are conscious that self-esteem comes from mastery; mastery of goals, small steps, learning from mistakes.
Parents; beware of the unintended results of focusing on the self-esteem building of your child. Apathy, dependence. A fixed mindset and dependence often replace confidence and tenacity.
