Language, Learning and Literacy

Our aim for students at Strathfield South Public School is “to achieve excellence and promote high levels of engagement through effective, equitable learning opportunities within a dynamic learning environment that supports the wellbeing of all” (Strategic Direction 1). Language, Literacy and Learning (L3) promotes high expectations for all students in literacy and aims to ensure that all students have met expected literacy outcomes by Year 3. We train our teachers in this comprehensive literacy program as it aligns with extensive evidence and has substantial impact on student outcomes through the provision of rich literacy experiences that meet the needs of all students.

It is with great pleasure to announce our recent teachers that have successfully completed the L3 program, Grace Leva, Caitlin Barker, Julie Ibrahim, Elizabeth Lechlein and Tamara Dunlop. In addition, we have 10 of our teachers that are trained in L3 Kindergarten and 9 teachers trained in L3 Stage 1. We have teachers currently undergoing the L3 professional learning and more teachers that will embark on this journey in 2019. As the Community of Schools L3 Trainer, I’ve been able to see first-hand the impact of L3 on our students through the provision of coaching and supporting effective teaching practice, ongoing advice, extra support in literacy lessons and the use of data analysis on student learning outcomes to drive teaching and learning. The embedding of professional learning within a school and a community of schools builds a learning community where "staff collaborate with the broader community to drive school improvement, efficacy and excellence" (strategic direction 3). It has been an honour to contribute to our community literacy and needs and help build our enormous literary success.
